Master key systems for Fourways complexes and businesses

A master key system lets one key open many doors while each individual key opens only what its holder actually needs. For a complex, an estate or a business, it replaces a drawer full of unlabelled keys with a structure somebody can actually explain.

How the hierarchy is built

Each lock is pinned so more than one key combination will turn it. A cleaner's key might open communal doors only; a maintenance key opens plant rooms; a master opens everything in its branch; a grand master opens the site.

The design work comes before any pinning — mapping who genuinely needs which door. That conversation is the valuable part, and it reliably surfaces access arrangements nobody had ever written down.

Restricted profiles

A hierarchy built on ordinary cylinders can be quietly undone by anyone taking a key elsewhere and having copies made. Restricted profiles close that: blanks are controlled and additional keys are only issued through the authorised channel against proof of authority.

For a system of any size this is the difference between key control and an organisational chart. Without it, the hierarchy is only as tight as the least careful person holding a key.

For body corporates and managing agents

Shared buildings accumulate keys faster than anywhere else — trustees, contractors, agents, previous owners, and a pump room nobody can account for.

A structured hierarchy gives a managing agent something auditable and gives owners a clear answer about who can reach shared spaces. We are happy to survey a development and put options to the trustees before anything is committed.

Keeping it honest

A master key system is a live thing and needs a register: which key, issued to whom, when, and returned when. Without that you have a hierarchy on paper and an unknown situation on the ground.

Design for growth as well. Adding doors later is simple if there was room built in; retrofitting a hierarchy planned tightly around exactly the doors that existed on day one usually means re-pinning far more than the new door.

What you get when you call us

  • Mapped before pinned

The access plan is agreed before hardware is touched.

  • Restricted profiles available

Extra keys only through the authorised channel.

  • Register handed over

A written record of what was issued and to whom.

  • Room to expand

Designed so new doors do not mean starting again.

Master Key Systems — common questions

Master key or restricted key — what is the difference?

They answer different questions. A master key is about hierarchy: which doors a key opens. A restricted key is about supply: who can obtain another one. Most systems of any size want both working together.

What if a master key goes missing?

It is serious, because that key opens a great deal. Depending on the design the response ranges from re-pinning one branch to re-pinning the site. Building the hierarchy so a loss stays contained to one branch is part of designing it properly in the first place.

Can our complex add units later?

Yes, if the system was designed with expansion in mind — which is how we would set one up. Extending a hierarchy planned with no headroom is considerably more disruptive.

Will you deal with our trustees directly?

Yes. For body corporates we would normally survey the development and present options to the trustees or managing agent before anything is ordered or fitted.

  • Commercial Locksmith

Retail, offices and body corporates. Key systems that still make sense after the third staff change.

  • Access Control

Tags, codes and readers for estates, complexes and premises where metal keys stopped scaling.

  • Rekeying

Same hardware, new key, old keys dead. The usual answer after a move or a staff change.

  • Security & High-Security Locks

Upgrades that hold up in practice, chosen around your door, your frame and your estate's rules.
