FFourways Emergency LocksmithOnline now · 24/7 callouts

Contact a Fourways locksmith — any hour, any day

Phone first. Someone answers directly, takes the estate or complex name, your street and what the lock is doing, and gets a technician moving while you are still talking. If you are behind a boom, say so immediately — arranging gate access is usually the slowest part of the whole job and it can be sorted while the vehicle is on its way. Everything about how a callout runs is on the emergency locksmith page.

Call or WhatsApp

Phone anything urgent. WhatsApp suits everything else, especially a photograph of the lock, the gate motor or the damaged frame — one picture usually replaces three rounds of description and gets you an accurate figure the first time.

Locked out right now?

Don't force the door and don't let a passer-by "help" with a screwdriver — damaged frames cost far more than a callout. Phone us, stay where you can see your door, and a technician will be with you shortly. New to us? Read about the locksmiths behind this number or browse the full locksmith service list.

Payment and what happens afterwards

Payment is due on completion rather than as a deposit before a technician arrives. That is worth knowing in advance, because a request for money up front, before anybody has seen the door, is one of the clearer warning signs in this trade and it is worth walking away from.

Card and instant EFT are accepted on site and an invoice follows by email or WhatsApp, usually the same evening. For business premises and managing agents, invoicing against a purchase order or an account can be arranged in advance rather than on the night.

Whatever the job, the door should lock properly when the vehicle leaves. If parts are needed, the property is made secure and we return rather than the visit ending with a working opening and a lock that no longer holds. That standard is the same on a lock repair as on an emergency callout.

Where we come from, and how long it takes

Vehicles are based at Fourways and we work the ring of suburbs immediately around it. Arrival times vary across that ring and you are given a realistic window rather than a flat promise, with an honest warning if traffic across Johannesburg is going to stretch it.

The suburbs closest in are the shortest runs. Chartwell and parts of Broadacres at the outer edge are longer, and if somebody closer would genuinely serve you better on an urgent job, you will be told that rather than sold a wait.

In a gated development the authorisation at the boom frequently takes longer than the drive, which is why naming the estate when you book matters more here than anywhere else. Every suburb we reach is on the Fourways locksmith service area in Gauteng page.

Enquiries that do not need a callout at all

A reasonable number of the messages that arrive here end with advice rather than a visit, and that is a good outcome rather than a missed one.

Somebody sends a photograph of a stiff cylinder and the answer is a dry lubricant made for locks rather than the household spray they have been using. Somebody describes a door that only locks when lifted and the answer is that the door has dropped rather than the lock failing. Somebody asks whether to change the locks after a tenant left and the honest answer, given what was on the ring, is that it can wait for a weekday.

None of that requires a vehicle, and saying so costs nothing. If you would rather work through it yourself first, a good deal of the same reasoning is on the lock and security advice in Johannesburg pages.

What we will tell you not to do while you wait

The twenty minutes between deciding you have a problem and somebody arriving is where most avoidable cost appears, and almost everything people try in that window makes the job larger.

A card does not open a deadbolt and never has; what it does is score the frame. A screwdriver against a frame is joinery damage rather than a technique, and a frame levered out of square needs a carpenter as well as a lock. Breaking a window costs several times an opening once glass, fitting and a glazier are added.

Forcing a key that has stopped turning is the worst of them, because a key snapped at the shoulder turns a straightforward job into broken key extraction and frequently a replacement on top. If it will not turn under normal pressure, stop and put it down.

For landlords, agents and body corporates

Recurring work is easier to arrange in advance than to organise each time, and a good share of what we do across the Fourways estates is for people managing property rather than living in it.

For a landlord the cheapest moment in the cycle is handover day, when a unit stands empty between tenants. Every external door can be dealt with in one visit, the key count is briefly zero, and you get a written record of how many were produced and who received each one.

For a body corporate the recurring problem is common property — the clubhouse, the pump room, the refuse area, the pedestrian gate — and nobody being able to say how many keys exist for any of them. That normally starts with a survey rather than a quote, and it is set out on the commercial locksmith page.

The fastest way to get a useful answer

If something has already gone wrong, phone. The line is answered by a dispatcher at any hour including public holidays, a technician is sent while you are still on the call, and you get a price band before anybody is dispatched.

If it has not gone wrong yet, WhatsApp is frequently better than a call. Send a photograph of the lock and the edge of the door. A picture of a cylinder answers more than five minutes of description, it means the price quoted is the price that holds, and a good number of enquiries end on the message thread without a callout at all.

Either way, the most useful thing you can say is what the lock did before it stopped. A key that had needed more force for a fortnight, a handle that has to be lifted, a gate that hesitates — those are the diagnosis, and they decide what is on the vehicle. The rest is on the emergency locksmith in Gauteng page.

What to have ready when you call

Four things, none of which takes any preparation. Your address, and whether it is inside an estate or complex — that changes who has to authorise a vehicle at the gate, and the call to arrange it can start while somebody is already driving.

What kind of door and lock, in ordinary language. A heavy wooden door with a key that has a single row of cuts is a different job from an aluminium door where the handle has to be lifted before the key turns, and describing it roughly is enough.

Whether anybody is shut inside — a child, an older person, an animal on a hot Gauteng afternoon — which changes the priority and should be said in the first sentence. And something that ties you to the address, because proof is asked for on every job including a straightforward house lockout in Johannesburg.

Booking work that is not urgent

Roughly half of what we do is planned rather than emergency, and planned work is cheaper. An unhurried appointment in daylight genuinely costs less to provide than a vehicle turned out at two in the morning, and the difference is passed on.

Daytime, evening and weekend slots are all available, including outside normal trading hours where that suits a business better. For commercial premises around the Fourways node that is the normal arrangement rather than a favour, because nobody wants a reception door in pieces at ten on a Tuesday morning.

It is also cheaper to group small jobs into one visit, since the callout is shared. A rekeying after a move, a hookbolt on the patio slider and a look at the pedestrian gate is one morning rather than three separate afternoons.

When to call at once, and when it can wait

Call immediately if the property cannot be secured — a door that will not lock, a gate standing open, a lock that has been forced. The same applies if keys have been lost rather than shut inside, particularly if they were on a ring carrying an estate tag or gate remote, because in a gated suburb the tag names the development.

Call at once too if a key has snapped in a lock you depend on, or if the only usable door has stopped working. Those get worse overnight, and a snapped key left in place tends to attract pliers at two in the morning, which turns broken key extraction in Fourways into a replacement.

It can wait until morning if the lock still works but has stiffened, if a gate is slow but functioning, or if you want an upgrade rather than a repair. If you are not sure which category you are in, phone and describe it — working that out on the line costs nothing.

Payment, invoices and what happens afterwards

Payment is due on completion rather than up front. A request for a deposit before anybody has seen the door is one of the clearer warning signs in this trade.

Card and instant EFT are accepted on site, and an invoice follows by email or WhatsApp. For business premises and managing agents, arrangements for invoicing against a purchase order or an account can be set up in advance rather than on the night.

Whatever the job, the door should lock properly when the vehicle leaves. If parts are needed, the property is made secure and we return rather than the visit ending with a working opening and a lock that no longer holds. That standard is the same on a lock change in Gauteng as on an emergency callout.
